  • Shared Care Prescribing
Some medications are very specialised and require intensive monitoring. For this reason we have developed a shared care system with secondary care to ensure the medications are prescribed in a safe manner. The current medications we have on our shared care system include:
  • Sick Notes
The first seven days off work due to any period of illness requires the employee to complete a self-certificate (SC2 form) which can be completed online and printed, or from your employer’s human resources department. Beyond seven days, a medical certificate may be given at the GP’s discretion and is a legal document stating that the patient is not fit for ANY work. An appointment with the GP is required for a first/new medical certificate. “Fit notes” allow the patient to request various flexible options from their employer; a phased return to work, altered hours, amended duties or workplace adaptations. Continuation medical certificates can usually be requested via a telephone consultation with the GP. You may still require a face-to-face GP appointment at the doctor’s discretion. Doctors are able to backdate medical certificates by a few days so we do not consider sick notes to be urgent queries.
  • Steroid Injections
If physiotherapy and painkillers have not helped to eleviate your pain, we can offer steroid injections at our surgery for specific conditions. Please get in touch with us to discuss this further if required.
  • Test Results
Blood test results are usually back within 5 working days, although they can sometimes take longer depending on which laboratory the test is sent to. X-ray results can take up to 14 days and CT / MRI scans can take even longer. Please do not ask us for results of any tests organised by hospital consultants. It is their responsibility to communicate the results to you so please contact them directly.
  • Vaccinations holiday/flu/shingles/pneumonia
We offer a variety of vaccinations at our practice. The following people are eligible to receive the flu vaccine free: All children aged two to ten on 31stAug 2019 this is an intranasal vaccine and is usually given at school) Pregnant women Those aged 65 years or over Those in long-term residential care homes Carers of those patients at risk of flu Close contacts of immunocompromised individuals Those aged 6 months to 65 years who are at high risk: People with Respiratory (lung) diseases, including asthma and COPD People who have heart disease, kidney disease or liver disease People who have neurological (brain or nerve) conditions including learning disability and multiple sclerosis People with diabetes People with severely weakened immune system (immunosuppression), those who have had their spleen removed, or those with sickle cell anaemia or coeliac disease People who are obese (BMI of 40 and above) Babies under 6 months old are too young to receive a flu vaccine. This is because they have maternal antibodies passed on from their mother which prevent the vaccine from working so well. Flu vaccination is offered to all pregnant women in the UK. As well as protecting pregnant women themselves, this also helps to protect their newborn babies from flu. We usually run “drop-in” clinics at Ivor Street Surgery with the dates advertised on social media and at the Practice. Pneumonia vaccinations are available to all adults over 65 and those aged under 65 who are at high risk: People who have had their spleen removed People with chronic respiratory, heart, kidney, or liver disease People with diabetes People who are immunosuppressed due to a medical condition or treatment (e.g. chemotherapy for cancer or disease-modifying drugs for certain types of arthritis) People with cochlear implants People with cerebrospinal fluid leaks (including leakage following trauma or major skull surgery).
